Tarigami demands restoration of rights in IIOJK

Slams Modi govt for barring Engineer Rashid from taking oath

Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, senior politician and Communist Party of India [Marxist] leader, Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami has called on the BJP-led Indian government to restore the constitutional, citizenship, and land rights of the people of the territory.

According to Kashmir Media Service, speaking to reporters in Behibag village in Kulgam district, Tarigami criticized the mere conducting of assembly elections as insufficient and called for the repeal of stringent laws like the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA), along with a review of cases filed under such draconian laws. He demanded that the curbs on the media and employees’ associations in the occupied territory should be lifted.

He also highlighted the deteriorating job scenario in IIOJK over the past five years. He said that trumpets were being beaten about providing employment to the youth of IIOJK. “But the job scenario has gone downhill over the last five years”, he added.

Tarigami pointed out that the initial impression given that the people of Jammu and Ladakh were content with the illegal abrogation of Article 370 was misleading, as they are also dissatisfied.

Criticizing the Modi government for barring Engineer Rashid from taking his oath as a Lok Sabha member, Tarigami said, “There is much talk about democracy, but in this region, jailed Engineer Rashid was not allowed to take his oath. This is a mockery of the democratic process.” Rashid, currently lodged in Tihar jail in connection with a false case, was elected as a member of the 18th Lok Sabha from Baramulla parliamentary constituency but was not administered the oath despite his name being called on June 24 during the swearing-in ceremony.
