IIOJK: Brute force used on protesters in Baramulla, several injured
Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, several people were injured after police used brute force against residents in the Pattan area of Baramulla, who were demanding a resolution to the ongoing water scarcity in their locality.
According to Kashmir Media Service, hundreds of residents from Chenabal in the Mirgund area of Pattan staged a peaceful protest today, blocking the Srinagar-Baramulla highway to call for an immediate water supply.
The demonstration escalated into violence when Indian police resorted to lathi charge and tear gas shelling to disperse the protesters, who responded by pelting stones. The ensuing clashes left several protesters injured and caused damage to numerous vehicles. The protesters also shouted pro-freedom and anti-BJP slogans.
During the turmoil, BJP leaders Sajid Yousuf Shah and Sahil Bashir Bhat, along with their personal security officers (PSOs) who were passing through the area in a car, were also attacked with stones by the protesters. Reportedly, the PSOs were also injured.
