Protests in Jammu and Baramulla against lack of basic amenities
Jammu: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, protests were held in Jammu and Baramullah districts against inadequate infrastructure and basic services.
According to Kashmir Media Service, locals gathered in Akhnoor area of Jammu to protest the stalled repair of a 500-meter stretch of the main road near the steel bridge over the Chenab River. The road has been in disrepair for three years, following delays in a road-widening project due to land acquisition issues related to bridge construction. Residents complained of worsening conditions, including soil erosion leading to water and mud entering their homes, severely disrupting daily life.
Protesters criticized the administration and the Public Works Department (PWD) for neglecting their responsibilities. They demanded immediate action to address the issue, emphasizing the challenges posed by the crumbling infrastructure.
Meanwhile, in Tangmarg’s Hardu Aboora village of Baramulla district, women staged a protest outside the office of the Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) of the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department. They highlighted the persistent issue of water scarcity in their area, which has left them without access to clean drinking water for an extended period.
“We have been facing severe water scarcity, and no official from the PHE Department has visited our village to address the issue,” a protester said.
The twin protests reflect growing public frustration over the lack of attention to basic infrastructure and essential services in the territory, with residents in both Akhnoor and Tangmarg demanding accountability and immediate redress from local authorities.
