New quota rules seen as a conspiracy to pitch Kashmiris against each other
Srinagar: The fresh change in reservation rules in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir is being seen as a part of larger conspiracy hatched by Narendra Modi-led India’s Hindutva government to pitch different segments of Kashmiri society against each other in the name of ethnicity and regionalism.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the new rules, which grant 10% reservation to the Pahari community, have increased the reserved quota to 60%, leaving only 40% for the general population. This move has been widely criticized as “total injustice” and “murder of open merit.”
Aspirants have expressed their concerns, stating that the new rules have dashed their hopes and shrunk opportunities for general category students. They argue that the decision was made for “electoral politics” and will lead to severe economic unrest among the local youth.
Renowned academic Siddiq Wahid has also pointed out the contradictions in the J&K reservation policy, highlighting the democratic deficit, opportunity denial, and overcompensation for reserved categories. He emphasizes the need for logical and fair laws to address the issue.
The youth are demanding justice and fair opportunities, but their concerns have fallen on deaf ears.
