Violence erupts in Manipur, curfew reimposed

Imphal: New incidents of violence have been reported in Manipur, leading to the reimposition of curfew in Imphal Valley and surrounding areas.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the recent reports stated that five houses were burned down in a village near Imphal, marking a new chapter in the ongoing unrest.

The conflict primarily involves the Meitei and Kuki communities, with accusations of orchestrated clashes between ethnic groups. Critics argue that the state government has remained a passive observer to these events.

Since last year, hundreds of innocent lives have been lost in Manipur due to ethnic violence. State police, in collaboration with Indian armed forces, have initiated combing operations in the region, as reported by Indian media. These large-scale search operations have caused significant difficulties for local residents.

The Manipur issue continues to escalate, with some locals now demanding independence from India. This situation has become a challenge for Prime Minister Modi’s government, which faces criticism for its handling of the crisis.

The ongoing unrest in Manipur has also raised concerns at the international level, with observers questioning the government’s approach to resolving the conflict.
