Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest in Srinagar, barred from Juma prayers

Srinagar: New Delhi-installed administration in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir has once again placed senior APHC leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest in Srinagar, barring him from offering the obligatory Juma prayers at the historic Jamia Masjid today.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Anjuman Auqaf Jamia Masjid issued a statement denouncing the action, revealing that the Mirwaiz was confined to his residence early this morning. The occupation authorities prohibited him from addressing the congregation at the Jamia Masjid, where thousands of devotees gather each Friday to hear his sermon, the Anjuman added.

The Anjuman Auqaf Jamia Masjid expressed strong condemnation of the authorities’ decision, highlighting the arbitrary nature of the detention, especially on a significant day when Mirwaiz’s sermons are highly anticipated by the Kashmiri Muslim community.

The organization reiterated its call for the IIOJK authorities to halt the repeated and unjust detention of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, which they argue causes significant distress to the Muslim community in the territory.
