Pakistan expresses concern over conditions of Kashmiri political prisoners in Indian jails

Islamabad: Pakistan has once again raised serious concerns over the deteriorating conditions faced by Kashmiri political prisoners detained in various Indian jails.

According to Kashmir Media Service, during her weekly press briefing in Islamabad today, Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch highlighted the worsening plight of these detainees. She condemned the inhumane treatment of Kashmiri prisoners, many of whom are subjected to overcrowded cells, denial of essential medical care, and prolonged detention without trial or due process.

Baloch called on Indian authorities to immediately release all political prisoners, human rights activists, and defenders, and to drop the baseless charges leveled against them. She reaffirmed Pakistan’s steadfast support for the Kashmiri people’s struggle, stressing that Pakistan would continue its political, diplomatic, and moral backing in accordance with United Nations Security Council resolutions. She reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to a fair and peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute.

The spokesperson also expressed grave concern over India’s activities in Balochistan, where, she said, investigations are underway into a recent terrorist attack that claimed the lives of several civilians. She reminded the press of the arrest of Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav in Balochistan a few years ago, underscoring India’s continued involvement in destabilizing the region.

Responding to India’s decision not to participate in the upcoming Champions Trophy, Baloch clarified that no backchannel negotiations were taking place between Pakistan and India regarding cricket ties. KMS-19S
