Modi govt insulted Manmohan by performing his last rites at Nigam Bodh Ghat, Rahul Gandhi
New Delhi: The Congress said that the Modi government has insulted India’s former prime minister Manmohan Singh by performing his last rites at Nigam Bodh Ghat instead of the designated memorial site.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Indian Parliament, Rahul Gandhi, in a post on X said by performing his last rites at Nigam Bodh Ghat, the government has insulted the great son of the motherland and the first Sikh Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, during whose ten-year tenure the country emerged as an economic power.
He said it is a tradition that the last rites of all former prime ministers are performed with dignity and respect at the designated memorial sites, Manmohan Singh also deserved utmost respect and the government should have maintained this tradition.
Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot also said in a statement that the Modi government created unnecessary controversy over the last rites of Manmohan Singh and the construction of a memorial, and the people of the country had expressed their anger over this move of the government.
He said the Congress has always respected all leaders, but the BJP has behaved badly towards Manmohan.
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and Bahujan Samaj Party president Mayawati also criticized the BJP government in this regard. Yadav said history will never forgive the BJP for its negative behavior.
It may be recalled that former Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh passed away on Thursday at the age of 92. He originally belonged to a village of Chakwal, Pakistan, where he was born in September 1932.
The former Indian Prime Minister completed his primary education in Chakwal and pursued higher education from the Punjab University, Lahore. He migrated to India after partition.
