Case filed against Sikh man in UP for alleged Khalistan support
Pilibhit: Police in Uttar Pradesh’s Pilibhit district have filed an FIR against a Sikh man, Gursewak Singh, for allegedly posting photos with weapons on social media and expressing support for Khalistan.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the incident has drawn attention to what critics describe as increasing scrutiny and targeting of the Sikh community under the pretext of addressing separatist sentiments.
According to officials, the FIR was registered following a written complaint by chowki in-charge Deepchandra, leading to serious charges under relevant legal provisions. Nagar Kotwali SHO Rajeev Kumar Singh confirmed the investigation is underway.
This development comes in the wake of a December 23 killing of three Sikh youth in the Puranpur area, allegedly Khalistan supporters during a joint operation by the Uttar Pradesh and Punjab Police. Gursewak Singh, a resident of Sirsa, Haryana, reportedly stirred controversy after posting pro-Khalistan content on Facebook following the incident.
However, Sikh organizations and rights groups argue that these measures lead to unwarranted harassment and profiling of the community, deepening distrust and alienation.
