APHC-AJK urges UN Secretary General to resolve Kashmir dispute

Islamabad: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir (APHC-AJC) chapter has appealed to the United Nations Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, to resolve the Kashmir dispute by giving the Kashmiris their birthright to self-determination in accordance with the resolution adopted by the World Body.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the appeal has been made in a memorandum submitted to the UN office in Islamabad today in connection with the Right to Self-Determination Day.

The memorandum was presented by a delegation of the APHC-AJK chapter, in which the UN chief was reminded of the promises made to the Kashmiris in the resolutions adopted by the international organization.

The memorandum said that on January 5, 1949, the UN Commission on Pakistan and India had passed a very important resolution in which it was stated that the question of the accession of Jammu and Kashmir to India or Pakistan would be decided through a free and impartial plebiscite, but due to India’s stubbornness, the Kashmir dispute is still unresolved.

The memorandum said the Kashmiri people have been making unprecedented sacrifices for the past over seven decades to achieve the right to self-determination and the silence of the United Nations and the world powers is encouraging India to continue its state terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.

The memorandum said to ensure lasting peace in South Asia, it is imperative that the Kashmir dispute be resolved in accordance with the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.

The delegation included Syed Faiz Naqshbandi, Sheikh Abdul Mateen, Hassan Al-Bana, and Imtiaz Wani.
