Kashmiris’ struggle for self-determination unshaken despite Indian tyranny: Dr. Sajad Khan

Rawalpindi: Dr. Raja Mohammad Sajad Khan, Director of the Kashmir Policy Research Institute (KPRI), emphasized that the Kashmiris’ struggle is centered on the right to self-determination, and that Kashmiris have never accepted India’s oppressive occupation of their homeland.

According to Kashmir Media Service, speaking at an event organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Cell in Rawalpindi, Dr. Sajad Khan condemned India’s negative propaganda regarding Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and its continued efforts to alter the demographic makeup of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). He remarked that India has effectively been defeated by the Kashmiri people and is now attempting to further its malicious agenda by manipulating the occupied territory’s demographic balance. Dr. Khan underscored that Pakistan is the sole international advocate for Kashmiris, steadfastly supporting their right to self-determination.

Dr. Khan highlighted that all unilateral actions taken by India since August 5, 2019, are illegal under United Nations resolutions, which affirm Kashmir’s disputed status and recognize the Kashmiris’ right to self-determination. He pointed out that India’s abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A not only violates these international resolutions but also contradicts India’s own Constitution. The ongoing freedom struggle in occupied Jammu and Kashmir is a clear indication that Kashmiris reject India’s legal framework and demand their right to decide their political future.

Responding to student questions, Dr. Khan affirmed that, despite India’s actions on August 5, 2019, the international community continues to regard Kashmir as a disputed territory. He emphasized that the resolution of the Kashmir issue must align with UN resolutions. He also condemned India’s illegal occupation of Kashmir, noting the deployment of over 900,000 Indian troops in the territory to suppress the Kashmiri people. Under harsh laws, these troops have been granted sweeping powers to commit atrocities, including genocide, against innocent Kashmiris. The Indian military’s actions in IIOJK amount to gross human rights violations and war crimes, Dr. Khan asserted.

Dr. Khan expressed the shared desire of every Kashmiri for Pakistan to remain politically, economically, and socially strong, as only a prosperous and stable Pakistan can ensure the success of Kashmiris’ struggle for freedom from India.

The event was attended by Director Liberation Cell Raja Khan Afsar Khan, Sardar Zulfiqar, Professor Waris Ali, Nadeem Khokhar, Sardar Sajid Mahmood, and Najibul Ghafoor Khan. A large number of students from universities in Rawalpindi and Islamabad participated in the event as well.
