APHC-AJK pays tribute to Gaw Kadal martyrs
Islamabad: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir (APHC-AJK) chapter has paid a heartfelt tribute to the martyrs of Gaw Kadal on the anniversary of their martyrdom. On January 21, 1990, Indian troops indiscriminately opened fire on peaceful protesters in Gaw Kadal, Srinagar, killing over 50 innocent Kashmiris.
According to Kashmir Media Service, in a statement issued in Islamabad, APHC-AJK Convener Ghulam Mohammad Safi, alongside the Hurriyat leadership, condemned the massacre as a stark example of Indian state terrorism, oppression, and brutality against unarmed Kashmiris. They noted that over the past 36 years, numerous mass killings of Kashmiris have taken place in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), branding these atrocities as a permanent stain on India’s so-called democratic image.
The Hurriyat leaders emphasized that the horrific memories of the Gaw Kadal massacre and other such tragic events are still vivid in the hearts and minds of Kashmiris. They honored the sacrifices of the martyrs, reaffirming that the Kashmiri people are forever indebted to those who laid down their lives for the sacred cause of freedom from Indian yoke.
Reiterating their unwavering commitment to continue the martyrs’ mission, the Hurriyat leadership pledged to make any sacrifice necessary to see it through to its logical conclusion. They called on the international community and human rights organizations to exert pressure on India to bring the perpetrators of the Gaw Kadal massacre to justice.
Additionally, they demanded accountability for the continued atrocities against Kashmiris, including mass killings, arbitrary arrests, land confiscations, forced job dismissals, and the Modi government’s attempts to alter occupied Jammu and Kashmir’s demographic composition.
