Maqbool Butt injected new spirit into Kashmir freedom movement : Mahmood Saghar
Muzaffarabad: On the martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed Maqbool Butt, a protest rally was organized in Muzaffarabad to pay tribute to the renowned Kashmiri leader, who was hanged in India’s notorious Tihar Jail on February 11, 1984.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the rally, organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party, started from the Tanga Stand and concluded at Gillani Chowk. Acting Chairman of the Democratic Freedom Party, Mahmood Ahmed Sagar, and other Hurriyat leaders addressed the participants.
In his telephonic address, Mahmood Sagar paid rich tribute to Shaheed Maqbool Butt and Shaheed Afzal Guru. He stated that Maqbool Butt, by sacrificing his life, injected a new spirit into the freedom movement and vowed that the flame of Maqbool Butt’s martyrdom, which had ignited the path to freedom, would never be extinguished.
The speakers reaffirmed the commitment of the Kashmiri people to continue their struggle for Kashmir’s freedom until its logical conclusion, willing to make any sacrifice necessary. They also expressed concerns about the lives of illegally detained Hurriyat leaders, including Masarat Alam Butt, Shabir Ahmad Shah, Yasin Malik, Asiya Andrabi, and others, who are facing severe threats to their lives in Indian jails. They urged the United Nations to pressurize India for the immediate release of all illegally detained freedom leaders and activists.
Among the speakers were Raja Sajad Ishaq, President of the Traders Association, Mehmood Inqilabi, Raja Mohsin, Chaudhry Shahid Aziz, Shahid Moghul, Muhammad Zareen, Shabir Awan, and others.
