Ex-Sri Lankan cricketer allotted land in IIOJK, assembly reveals

Srinagar: A former Sri Lankan cricketer has been allotted hundreds of kanals of land in the disputed territory of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, as revealed in the territory’s assembly.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the issue of allotment of land to a foreigner echoed in the Legislative Assembly on Saturday, with members questioning the administration over it.
During the Question Hour, CPI-M MLA Muhammad Yosouf Tarigami revealed that a Sri Lankan cricketer has been allotted land free of cost by the Delhi-installed administraiton led by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha in Kathua district of Jammu region.
Congress MLA Ghulam Ahmad Mir also asked how a foreign cricketer has been allotted land in IIOJK. “This is a serious question and needs to be looked into,” he said.
Responding to concerns of MLAs, minister for Agiculture Production Department Javaid Ahmad Dar said that the matter needs to be looked into.
“This matter pertains to the Revenue department,” he said.
The Ceylon Beverages Limited, promoted by Sri Lankan cricketer Muttiah Muralitharan, has been allotted 206 kanals of land at Kathua against a premium of Rs eight lakh per kanal.
