Meraj Malik’s detention echoes in IIOJK assembly, called insult to institution

Jammu: The continued detention of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Meraj Malik has sparked sharp reactions in the Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, with National Conference MLA Hilal Akbar Lone calling it an “insult to the institution”.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Lone demanded Malik’s immediate release, saying the MLA had been jailed over a “petty issue” and was not allowed to represent his constituents. “Is this democracy?” Lone asked, as he appealed to all Assembly members to raise their voice for Malik’s release.
The issue led to a heated exchange between NC and BJP members, with BJP MLA Yudhvir Sethi sparking controversy by declaring Article 370 “dead and buried”. NC members, including Nazir Ahmed Gurezi and Salman Sagar, countered Sethi’s remarks, leading to a verbal duel.
Other MLAs, including Kuldeep Raj Dubey and Mohammad Akram Choudhary, raised issues related to daily wagers, ASHA workers, and infrastructure development.
The Assembly witnessed sharp exchanges, with MLAs accusing each other of playing politics over sensitive issues.
Malik is facing detention over what the Modi regime argues the use harsh language against Doda Deputy Commissioner Harvinder Singh.
