Engineer Rashid’s party denied permission to hold protest in New Delhi

New Delhi: The denial of permission to Awami Itihaad Party, headed by jailed MP Engineer Rashid from Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, to stage a peaceful protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi has raised serious concerns about the state of democracy in India.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the party had sought permission to protest the denial of statehood to occupied Jammu and Kashmir and other political rights, but the Delhi Police rejected the request.

AIP spokesperson Inam Un Nabi termed the denial “deeply unfortunate” and said it reflects the shrinking democratic space for peaceful dissent. “The demand for statehood is a legitimate political and democratic demand,” he said.

The move has been seen as a further clampdown on dissenting voices in India and Kashmir, raising questions about the commitment to democratic values and human rights. The AIP has vowed to continue its peaceful struggle for the rights of Jammu and Kashmir.
