IIOJK HC grants Modi regime more time to respond to book ban

Srinagar: The High Court of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir has granted the Modi-led Indian regime additional time to respond to petitions challenging the ban on 25 books dealing with Kashmir’s history and politics.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the books, including works by prominent authors and historians, were deemed “anti-India” and forfeited by the Modi government in August 2025.

Petitioners argue that the ban is an attack on freedom of expression and an attempt to stifle dissenting voices.

The court has asked New Delhi to provide specific grounds for the ban, saying that mere statutory provisions are insufficient. The matter has been adjourned to March 25, with the court seeking a detailed response from the Centre.

The banned books include “The Kashmir Dispute 1947-2012” by A G Noorani, “Kashmir at the Crossroads” by Sumantra Bose, and “A Dismantled State” by Anuradha Bhasin, among others.
