Rahul Gandhi slams attacks on Kashmiris across India, vows to protect their safety
Says BJP-backed elements creating climate of fear for minorities, marginalized groups

New Delhi: Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, has expressed deep concern over the recent wave of attacks targeting members of the Kashmiri community across India.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Rahul Gandhi conveyed his concern in a letter written to IIOJK Students Association National Convener Nasir Khuehami, responding to reports of assaults on Kashmiri students and shawl sellers in multiple Indian states.
In his letter, Gandhi denounced the rising politics of hate, stating that it has not only weakened India’s institutions but also fractured the country’s social fabric. He warned that elements, encouraged either overtly or tacitly by the ruling establishment, have contributed to an atmosphere of fear among minorities and marginalized groups.
He unequivocally condemned violence in all its forms and reaffirmed the Congress party’s commitment to upholding constitutional values. Gandhi expressed solidarity with victims and their families, who, he said, have endured “unimaginable pain,” and vowed to continue fighting hate while standing up for their right to live with dignity, security, and equal citizenship.
The statement comes amid growing alarm over repeated incidents of harassment, assault, and intimidation faced by Kashmiri students and seasonal traders, particularly shawl sellers, across several Indian states.
The IIOJK Students Association has been actively pursuing the matter with Indian political leaders and authorities, seeking safeguards to ensure the safety and protection of the community.
