Kashmiri population, including women, facing worst Indian state terrorism: Speakers

Muzaffarabad: All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir (APHC-AJK) chapter organized a seminar and rally in Muzaffarabad on the occasion of International Women’s Day.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the speakers in their addresses paid rich tributes to the courage and bravery of the mothers, sisters and daughters of Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir and demanded the immediate release of all Hurriyat leaders, including the imprisoned women leaders and urged the international community to play an effective role in resolving the lingering Kashmir dispute.
They said the entire Kashmiri population, including women, is facing the worst state terrorism by the Indian forces in occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The honour and dignity of mothers, sisters and daughters are not even protected, they added.
The speakers appealed to the international human rights organizations to pay attention to the grave situation in the occupied territory where humanity is continuously groaning. They said during the last 36 years, about 23,000 women have become widows in occupied Jammu and Kashmir, while more than 11,000 women have been subjected to sexual violence.
They said that many Kashmiri women leaders, including Aasiya Andrabi, Naheed Nasreen and Fehmida Sufi are still under detention in India’s notorious jails, while the Hurriyat leadership is continuously being kept behind the bars.
The speakers demanded that the international community should take practical steps for the release of these prisoners, adding Kashmiri daughters, who are victims of Indian atrocities, are still deprived of justice.
They said suppression and oppression have increased in occupied Jammu and Kashmir due to the extremist policies of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and under the cover of black laws, Indian forces are entering homes and harassing women.
The speakers said the demand for freedom is not a crime under any law, but India is trying to suppress the legitimate struggle of the Kashmiri people for freedom through use of brute force.
They called upon the international human rights organizations and civilized nations to break their silence and take concrete steps to stop the atrocities being committed against Kashmiri women. They said the brave women of occupied Jammu and Kashmir are steadfastly continuing their struggle for freedom despite Indian oppression and are also preparing the new generation for the struggle for freedom.
The seminar and rally were addressed among others by Member of Legislative Assembly Professor Taqdees Gilani, Hurriyat leader Mushtaq-ul-Islam, Spokesperson of AJK Prime Minister Shaukat Javed Mir, President of Muslim Conference Women’s Wing Samia Sajid, President of PML-N Azad Kashmir Women’s Wing Maryam Kashmiri, Secretary General of PPP Azad Kashmir Women’s Wing Shagufta Noreen Kazmi, Director of Kashmir Studies Professor Dr. Sameera Shafiq, Head of Al-Maqdis Welfare Society Shazia Awan, Professor Nargis, President of Women’s Wing Tehreek-e-Jawanan Kashmir Dr Tehminat and Principal of Fatima Jinnah Postgraduate College Professor Dr Nuzhat Mir Alam.
