APHC urges UN to act as India pushes false normalcy in Kashmir

Srinagar: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference has urged the United Nations and the international community to hold India accountable for war crimes against the oppressed people of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

According to Kashmir Media Service, an APHC spokesperson, in a statement issued in Srinagar, said India is attempting to project a false narrative of normalcy in the UN-recognized disputed territory. The statement emphasized that such efforts are aimed at diverting attention from the core issue and called upon the United Nations to fulfill its promise of granting Kashmiris their inalienable right to self-determination.

Condemning the ongoing arrest spree and confiscation of houses, land and other properties of innocent Kashmiris by India’s National Investigation Agency and police led by the New Delhi-installed LG regime, the APHC reaffirmed the Kashmiris’ resolve to continue their struggle till the settlement of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with UN resolutions and its relevance to the Two-Nation Theory.

The APHC expressed serious concern over the harassment and arrest of Kashmiri civilians, mostly youth and women, during cordon-and-search operations and house raids in Srinagar and other parts of the territory. It stated that continued search operations and the summoning of youth to police stations are being used as tools of harassment under draconian laws such as AFSPA, PSA, and UAPA by Indian military and police authorities.

The statement further condemned the actions of the BJP-led Indian government, particularly following the August 2019 move to revoke Articles 370 and 35A, which had granted special status to the territory. It said the arrests of thousands of political leaders and activists under stringent laws are part of a broader agenda to alter the Muslim identity of the territory.

The APHC also accused the government of pursuing policies aimed at seizing land and undermining the identity, culture, and social fabric of Kashmir. It stressed that such efforts could only be resisted through greater unity among the people and leadership of the territory. The organization reaffirmed its resolve, along with other Hurriyat leaders and the public, to counter what it termed anti-struggle measures and occupation policies.

The APHC maintained that the Jammu and Kashmir issue is neither merely economic nor related to connectivity, but a political dispute involving millions of Kashmiris. It called on India to abandon what it described as futile power politics and military approaches, and instead address the issue in its historical context to lay the foundation for a stable, peaceful, and prosperous South Asia.
