Indian police attach properties, vehicle worth Rs 5.8 crore in Srinagar

Srinagar: Indian police have attached immovable properties and a vehicle worth Rs 5.8 crore belonging to three Kashmiri people in Srinagar, Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the action was carried out by police in Khanyar, Srinagar under so-called Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
Police took the action under the stereotypical excuse that the properties were acquired using proceeds of narcotics trafficking, a charge local say is being repeatedly use to rob innocent Kashmiri of their valuable belongings.
The attached assets include a double-storey house and eight shops at Koolipora, Khanyar, belonging to Nazir Ahmad Mir alias Nazir Lashkari, valued at Rs 3.2 crore; land, a temporary structure and an SUV at Miskeen Bagh belonging to Gulzar Ahmad Mir, worth Rs 1.8 crore; and a single-storey house at Lone Mohalla, Nowpora Khanyar, belonging to Zahid Manzoor Rather, valued at Rs 80 lakh.
Officials said the move is part of the 100-day ‘Nasha Mukt Abhiyan’ launched by Delhi-appointed Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on April 11 to, on one hand malign the genuine freedom struggle, and confiscate the properties in the name of drug trafficking, on the other.
Separately, police in Udhampur attached property worth Rs 71 lakh belonging to Jawaz Ahmed Wani of Akramabad, Doda, under NDPS Act in connection with a case at Rehambal police station.
This follows an earlier similar move in Sopore, where police attached land belonging to a freedom activist as part of the ongoing crackdown in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
Locals have complained that Indian authorities continue to seize properties of Kashmiris on various pretexts.
