Rich tributes paid to Dr Farooq Ashai
Islamabad: APHC-AJK convener Mehmood Ahmed Saghar has paid rich tributes to Doctor Farooq Ahmad Ashai saying that he was one of the great sons of soil who sacrificed his life for the just cause of Kashmir.
According to Kashmir Media Service, on February 18, 1993, Kashmir lost Prof Farooq Ashai, then HOD Orthopaedics who fell to bullets of Indian forces. Thirty-one years have passed, but the memories are still fresh.
Founder of Srinagar’s Bone and Joint Hospital, Prof Ashai at the time of death was chief orthopedic surgeon at the Bone and Joint Hospital and a faculty member & HOD at Medical College Srinagar (Department of Orthopedics).
Considered to be father of orthopedics in Kashmir, Prof Ashai frequently met with foreign journalists and human rights representatives. He acted as a spokesman for injured civilians in occupied Kashmir in the early 90s.
Saghar on the martyrdom of Dr Ashai said that the brutal way in which the doctor was martyred by Indian forces would remain a glaring proof of Indian oppression in occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
