Mysterious killing sparks protests with body placed on road in Rajouri

Jammu: The killing of a missing person under mysterious circumstances has led to protests in Rajouri district of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, with the body placed on the road, suspending traffic for many hours.

According to Kashmir Media Service, locals and relatives of the deceased, Mohammad Mustaq staged strong protest demonstration in the Kalakote area of the district. The protesters who placed the body on the road, which blocked the Rajouri-Kalakote route for many hours, said that Mushtaq was killed in the Indian army’s custody.

The deceased went missing on February 29 from Karuliya village, within the jurisdiction of Kalakote Police Station in Rajouri district. His body was discovered under dubious circumstances in a local river in the Chingus area of Rajouri, yesterday.

Prominent social activist Tazeem Gujjar, along with several other social workers and leaders from various political factions, joined the protest, vociferously condemning the occupation authorities, and demanding swift justice.

The protesters expressed their dismay over the lack of investigation or apprehension of suspects during the 18 days the person remained missing. They categorically labeled it as a heinous murder and urged the police to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation, ensuring justice for the deceased, a father of four children, and his family.

It is important to note that three other youths who among many others were picked up by Indian troops from Rajouri district were killed in custody a few weeks ago. This incident highlights the ongoing human rights violations and extrajudicial killings perpetrated by Indian forces in IIOJK.
