Muslim vendor assaulted by Indian police succumbs in Gujarat
Ahmedabad: A Muslim vendor who was mercilessly beaten up by Indian policemen has breathed his last in a hospital in the BJP-ruled Gujarat state.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Mohammed Faizan, a Muslim vendor, was mercilessly beaten up by Indian policemen on April 29. He succumbed to his injuries after battling for life for over a month in a hospital in Vadodara city.
Faizan, an omelette vendor, was dragged through a PCR van after his shop was found open outside Vadodara railway station late at night. Two Indian policemen and a van driver have been booked for assaulting Faizan. The victim, who got married only ten months ago, leaves behind a widow.
“I took good care of my brother, assuming he would be treated well and recover. But nothing happened. His backbone was broken. He was unable to breathe normally; both his kidneys and lungs were severely affected and stopped functioning. Now he is dead,” Mumtaz, Faizan’s brother, told reporters in Vadodara.
Mumtaz demands justice and punishment for the erring policemen. “They have murdered my brother. They came together to beat up my brother. Even off-duty policemen came to take part in the gruesome act. They all assaulted Faizan brutally,” he said.
The victim’s brother, Mumtaz, demands that the policemen be booked under Section 302 (murder) of the IPC. “Unless these policemen are punished, we will continue our struggle,” he said.
The victim, Faizan, was originally from Bihar, and his body has been taken to his native village for burial. His treatment for over a month was made possible with the help of some philanthropists. The Muslim Doctors Association also partly bore Faizan’s treatment cost.
Faizan’s death comes as another Muslim youth, 30 -year-old Azharuddin, died.
