Two arrested in Maharashtra over alleged religious conversion case
Mumbai: Indian police have arrested a woman and another individual in Maharashtra over allegations of religious conversion.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the arrests follow a complaint filed by a woman at the Vithalwadi police station, alleging that her daughter was converted to Islam in Ulhasnagar, Thane district. The complaint asserts that the conversion occurred while the complainant was abroad in London in June 2022.
The complainant alleges that her daughter, influenced by a nearby family and Islamic preacher videos, renounced Hinduism. She claimed her daughter went missing shortly afterward and later discovered a letter from the Ulhasnagar and Ambernath Masjid Trust confirming the conversion.
Indian officials said that the complainant also claimed that her daughter withdrew funds from her father’s account after the conversion and expressed concerns that her daughter might have been brainwashed and coerced into illegal activities.
