Political & legal experts term 5 MLAs’ nomination by IIOJK Lt Governor ‘pre-result rigging’

Srinagar: The authority of the India-installed Lieutenant Governor of occupied Jammu and Kashmir to nominate five members to the territory’s assembly has drawn strong criticism, with political and legal experts questioning its constitutionality.

According to Kashmir Media Service, PDP leader Iltija Mufti criticized the nominations, set to increase the assembly’s strength to 95, as “brazen pre-result rigging.”

Senior advocate Mohinder Bhardwaj, also the Working President of Jammu and Kashmir Congress, labeled the move “grossly illegal and unconstitutional.” He emphasized that such premature nominations would be open to constitutional and judicial scrutiny, undermining the rights of Kashmiri people.

Other legal experts, including senior advocate Gopal Sankaranarayanan and Indian Supreme Court advocate Ashwani Kumar Dubey, have also weighed in on the issue.

Sankaranarayanan argued that New Delhi should refrain from interfering in the political process in the occupied territory, as it undermines elected governments.
