Protests in Jammu, Srinagar demand restoration of statehood to IIOJK


Srinagar: Protests were held in Jammu and Srinagar cities demanding the restoration of statehood to Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, today.

According to Kashmir Media Service, one protest was organized by Communist Party of India (Marxist) in Jammu, while another protest was organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) in Srinagar.

The demonstrators carried placards and banners advocating for the restoration of the state’s identity, the return of the Darbar Move and the protection of Kashmiri people’s rights to land and employment.

President of Jammu and Kashmir Kisan Movement, Kishore Kumar emphasized that the protest was against the revocation of Kashmir’s special status and to demand the safeguarding of the rights of IIOJK.

He said that the new government should ensure the protection of Kashmiri rights to land and employment. He reminded that the unlawful abrogation of Article 370 by the Modi-led Indian government in August 2019, was an act of hostility towards the people of IIOJK.

Meanwhile Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) held a protest demonstration at the party office in Srinagar to press their demand for restoration of statehood to IIOJK

The protest was led by provincial Congress president Tariq Hameed Karra, , with party leaders and workers assembling at the PCC office.

He said the Congress party wanted to remind the Modi regime about its promise of restoring statehood to IIOJK after the elections.
