Muslims feel unsafe in India: Farooq Abdullah
Srinagar: The president of the National Conference, Farooq Abdullah, has expressed concern over the safety of Muslims in India, stating that they feel unsafe in the current political climate.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Farooq Abdullah, while speaking to the media in Srinagar, emphasized that under the Modi government, over 240 million Muslims in India are being deprived of their fundamental rights. He reiterated that Muslims, like all citizens, deserve equal treatment.
He said that no group should be marginalized or made to feel insecure and the Indian Constitution also guarantees equality for all religions and their followers.
Abdullah also condemned the forces attempting to divide the Kashmiri people along religious lines, vowing that such conspiracies would not succeed. “We must resist sectarian forces and ensure they do not achieve their goals,” he added.
Abdullah further assured that the National Conference, led by his son Omar Abdullah, will address the unjust dismissal of Kashmiri Muslim government employees by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha’s administration. “We will ensure justice for those wrongfully removed from their posts,” he added.
Abdullah’s remarks come amid growing concerns over the state of minority rights and religious freedom in India, particularly for Muslims in the wake of the Modi government’s controversial policies.
