Minor Dalit girl athlete raped for two years in Karela
Thiruvananthapuram: The 18- year-old Dalit girl athlete was raped several times for over two years by nearly 60 individuals, including her sports trainers, fellow athletes in Kerala state of India.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the matter came to light during counseling by the local Child Welfare Committee, after the victim’s teachers noticed changes in her behavior. Police have registered multiple FIRs, and 15 individuals have been arrested so far, including trainers and classmates, for raping and exploiting the minor athlete.
The abuse began when the victim was just 16 and occurred at various locations, including public spaces and her school. Police investigation has identified 40 suspects based on call details from the victim’s father’s phone, which she used to communicate with the perpetrators.
The Pathanamthitta Child Welfare Committee (CWC) stated that individuals outside the district might also be involved in the case. The CWC chairman said that the girl had been a victim of sexual exploitation since she was 13.
