Mamata blasts CEC as ‘arrogant liar’, accuses ECI of BJP bias

New Delhi: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has launched a scorching attack on India’s Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, calling him the most “arrogant” and “great liar” she’s encountered.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Banerjee accused the ECI of unfairly targeting West Bengal in the voter list revision, deleting genuine voters’ names under BJP pressure.
Banerjee singled out ECI Director General Seema Khanna, alleging she’s linked to the BJP’s IT cell and removed 58 lakh names from the draft voters’ list. She walked out of an ECI meeting, citing the CEC’s misbehaviour and bias.
Banerjee likened the CEC’s conduct to former Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar’s, claiming both follow BJP instructions. She questioned the selective application of electoral roll revisions, pointing to observers and micro-observers deployed in West Bengal.
The TMC government’s friction with the ECI escalates ahead of potential assembly polls.
