Seminar held in Srinagar to mark Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Farooq’s martyrdom anniversary
Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, a seminar was organized at Islamia Higher Secondary School at Rajouri Kadal in Srinagar in connection with the 36th martyrdom anniversary of prominent liberation leader Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Farooq.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Farooq was martyred by unidentified gunmen at his residence in Nigeen area of Srinagar on May 21, 1990.
The seminar, held under the theme “Holistic Education for a Healthy Society: Nurturing Mind and Body,” was attended by members of Anjuman Nusrat-ul-Islam, academicians, teachers and students from various educational institutions. Students also presented papers on the seminar theme.
Addressing the gathering, senior APHC leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq stressed the importance of balanced and value-based education, saying that Islam places equal emphasis on the intellectual, physical, moral, and spiritual development of human beings.
Paying tribute to his father Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Farooq, he said that the martyred leader had devoted his entire life to education, social reform, communal harmony, and the moral upliftment of society. He added that through the platform of Anjuman Nusrat-ul-Islam and the pulpit of Jamia Masjid Srinagar, the late Mirwaiz rendered invaluable services in providing educational and moral guidance to the people.
On the occasion, a special edition of the monthly magazine Nusrat-ul-Islam, titled “Shaheed-e-Millat Number 2026,” was also released.
