IIOJK has been converted into jail: Mehbooba Mufti
Srinagar: Peoples Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti has deplored that entire Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir has been turned into a jail where no one is allowed to talk.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Mehbooba Mufti was speaking to reporters in Pulwama, today.
She said, “I have started my election campaign to raise voice against this enforced silence, the wanton arrests and atmosphere of suffocation that prevails here [Jammu and Kashmir]”.
“Entire Kashmir has been converted into a jail. No one is allowed to talk. Since the elections have been announced, the process of arrests has also started,” Mufti said.
She said that recently a tourist guide was shot at in Shopian which was an unfortunate development, adding, “But it does not mean that you will arrest hundreds of youth and place them under the Public Safety Act”.
Mufti said the situation was not peculiar to Shopian and Pulwama districts. “It is not about Pulwama and Shopian districts only, this atmosphere has been unleashed across Kashmir. If they are claiming that everything is normal, then why these wanton arrests?” she asked.
The PDP chief is contesting the Indian parliamentary elections from the Anantnag [Islamabad]-Rajouri Lok Sabha constituency. She launched her campaign today with a promise of raising the voice of voiceless people in occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The Lok Sabha seat is going to polls in the third phase of the Indian general elections on May 7.
