Youth Parliament of Pakistan delegation visits UK parliament, discusses key global issues
London: A delegation from the Youth Parliament of Pakistan (YPP), led by President Ubaid Qureshi, visited the UK Parliament at the invitation of Khalid Mahmood MP.
During their visit, the delegates had the opportunity to engage in a fruitful discussion with Rt Hon. Afzal Khan CBE and Rt. Hon. Dame Rosie Winterton DBE, Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons.
The discussion focused on pressing issues affecting young people globally, including education, mental health, and climate action. The delegation also highlighted key issues impacting Pakistan, such as the Kashmir issue and the role of the overseas community and international parliamentarians in addressing demographic challenges.
The delegates emphasized the importance of youth and civil society engagement in strengthening bilateral relations and discussed issues related to education, health, and local governance. Khalid Mahmood MP praised the delegation’s commitment to civic engagement and stressed the significance of youth voices in shaping public policy.
The visit underscores the vital role of youth in democracy and the ongoing efforts to ensure their active participation in political processes. The delegation included seven members, and the session was moderated by Ms. Hira Bilal and Ms. Sidra Akhtar, focusing on parliamentary governance and the role of overseas Pakistanis. The visit concluded with the presentation of souvenirs as a token of gratitude.
