NA passes resolution condemning India’s revocation of IIOJK’s special status
Islamabad: The National Assembly has unanimously passed a resolution denouncing India’s revocation of the special status of occupied Jammu and Kashmir and urging New Delhi to halt its blatant human rights violations in the territory while implementing United Nations Security Council resolutions.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Minister for Kashmir Affairs Amir Muqam today introduced the resolution, which seeks to facilitate a fair and impartial plebiscite under United Nations oversight, allowing the Kashmiri people to determine their future. Muqam noted that the resolution was scheduled for presentation the previous day but was postponed due to the death of an assembly member.
The resolution emphasized Pakistan’s annual observance of August 5 as “Exploitation Day,” commemorating India’s unilateral and illegal actions. It voiced solidarity with the Kashmiri people in their legitimate struggle for self-determination and underscored that the Jammu and Kashmir conflict remains a prominent unresolved issue on the UN agenda.
It condemned the extensive deployment of Indian troops in IIOJK, which has rendered it one of the world’s most militarized zones, and rejected India’s unilateral actions taken on August 5, 2019. The resolution expressed grave concern over attempts to alter the demographic and political landscape of IIOJK and stressed that no political process under Indian occupation can replace the right to self-determination, as stipulated by UN Security Council resolutions.
The resolution also condemned ongoing human rights abuses, including the continued detention of thousands of Kashmiri political prisoners. It criticized the draconian laws in force that grant Indian forces impunity, leading to widespread human rights violations.
Praising the Kashmiri people’s enduring struggle and sacrifices, the resolution reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering political, diplomatic, and moral support for their right to self-determination. It also rejected irresponsible statements by Indian leaders concerning Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, warning that such remarks jeopardize regional peace and stability. Additionally, the resolution underscored Pakistan’s resolute commitment to counter any aggressive actions by India.
