OIC urged to bar India from misleading world through sham elections in IIOJK
Islamabad: Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party’s Acting Chairman, Mehmood Ahmed Saghar, has appealed to the Secretary General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Hissein Brahim Taha, to prevent India’s attempts to mislead the international community by staging sham elections in occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
According to Kashmir Media Service, in a letter to the OIC Secretary General, Saghar highlighted the Indian government’s efforts to create a false impression of normalcy in Kashmir through farcical elections, despite the trritory’s dire human rights situation. He emphasized that the elections are being held under the presence of a large number of troops, which has led to human rights violations, including excessive force, arbitrary detentions, and enforced disappearances.
Saghar urged the OIC to use its good offices to help resolve the Kashmir conflict peacefully, respecting the Kashmiri people’s fundamental human rights and allowing their voices to be heard. He emphasized that the elections cannot substitute for the Kashmiris’ right to a UN-supervised plebiscite or referendum.
The letter calls on the OIC to take immediate action to prevent India’s attempts to mislead the international community and to work towards a peaceful solution to the long-standing Jammu and Kashmir dispute.
