IIOJK authorities’ apathy leaves Uri village in water crisis

Srinagar: The apathy of authorities in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir towards resolving basic needs of people has led to an acute shortage of drinking water for residents of a village in Uri area of Baramulla.

According to Kashmir Media Service, over the past few weeks, the residents of Garkote village have reported a severe lack of potable water, resulting in widespread frustration and helplessness.

The residents voiced the community’s distress, stating, “Either the water supply is very low, or our taps are running dry. There is a severe water crisis in our village.”

A local resident Reyaz Ahmad highlighted that the water pipeline has not been replaced in over forty years, leading to rust and blockages that obstruct the flow of water.

Residents further criticized the Water Department for its negligence, saying that employees rarely visit the village to conduct maintenance or inspections. “They don’t carry out regular maintenance,” the locals lamented, emphasizing the urgent need for attention to their basic water supply needs.

As the crisis continues, the community is calling for immediate action to restore access to clean drinking water.
