Bajrang Dal activists brutally attack Dalit Professor in Andhra Pradesh

Amaravati: A Dalit professor was brutally assaulted by Hindutva-affiliated Bajrang Dal activists in Andhra Pradesh state for his outspoken advocacy of social justice and Dalit rights.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the attack occurred on the campus of Sri Venkateswara University in Tirupati, where a group of Bajrang Dal activists confronted Prof. Ch. Changaiah, Dean of the Department of Electrical Engineering. The activists questioned the professor about his stance on Dalit rights, and what began as a verbal dispute quickly escalated into a violent assault.

As reported by India Today, the disagreement turned physical, with Prof. Changaiah being severely beaten by the attackers. The incident has drawn widespread condemnation, highlighting the increasing threats faced by Dalit activists who speak out for equality and justice.

This assault marks the second such attack on a Dalit individual in the past week. On November 27, in Madhya Pradesh’s Shivpuri district, 27-year-old Narad Jatav, a Dalit man, was beaten to death by a local sarpanch and his family for using a common hand pump to fetch water in Indragarh village. According to the police, Jatav succumbed to injuries inflicted by the sarpanch, Padma Singh Dhakad, and his family, who used sticks and rubber pipes during the brutal assault.

Both incidents reflect the deepening challenges faced by Dalit communities in India, where violence and discrimination continue to be pervasive against them.
