Assam hotels refuse to serve Bangladeshi nationals
Dispur: Hotels and restaurants in Indian state of Assam have announced a ban on serving guests from Bangladesh.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Barak Valley Hotel and Restaurant Association (BVHRA) in a statement stated that they decided to stop hosting any national from Bangladesh in all the three districts of Barak Valley.
Babul Rai, the president of the BVHRA, stated that this is primarily because of the insults they have shown towards India.
Barak Valley, which includes the districts of Cachar, Sribhumi (formerly Karimganj), and Hailakandi, shares a 129-km border with Bangladesh’s Sylhet region. The region has long been sensitive to political and social dynamics across the border.
The ban on Bangladeshi nationals is not limited to Assam. Similar actions have been taken in West Bengal’s Kolkata, where the All Tripura Hotel and Restaurant Owners’ Association and a local hospital have also refused services to Bangladeshis.
