Surveying mosques while people suffer is wrong: Congress leader Vadra
Mumbai: Congress leader Sonia Gandhi’s son-in-law Robert Vadra criticized the political focus of the Modi government on mosque excavations, calling it inappropriate when people are struggling with inflation and farmers are protesting for their rights.
According to Kashmir Media Service, speaking during a visit to Mumbai, Vadra expressed concerns over a potential rise in communal tensions due to such actions.
“Surveying mosques is wrong,” Vadra told the media, emphasizing that religion and politics should remain separate in India, a diverse nation. He also warned that prioritizing such activities over development risks creating unnecessary unrest in society.
During his visit, Vadra offered a chaddar at the iconic Haji Ali Dargah in Mumbai, describing it as part of his “spiritual trips” to various places of worship across the country. “I prayed for the well-being of my family and the nation. I hope brotherhood prevails in society,” he said.
Citing the ongoing violence in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal following a court-ordered survey of the Mughal-era Shahi Jama Masjid, Vadra criticized the neglect of pressing issues like inflation and farmer protests. “Instead of addressing real problems, the focus is on communal issues, which diverts attention from development,” he said.
Vadra also voiced skepticism about the credibility of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), a topic often raised by opposition parties. He questioned recent electoral results in Haryana and Maharashtra, stating, “If people are unhappy with the BJP governments, how did the party win elections?”
Referring to the ongoing farmers’ protests near the Shambhu border, Vadra noted their demand for a legal guarantee for Minimum Support Price (MSP) and highlighted the injuries protesters suffered due to tear gas shells fired by security forces.
