Journalist found dead days after exposing corruption in Chhattisgarh
Raipur: The body of a journalist was found in a septic tank on the premises of a local contractor in the BJP-ruled state of Chhattisgarh, India.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the deceased has been identified as Mukesh Chandrakar, 28, a journalist associated with a local news channel in Chhattisgarh and a contributing reporter for NDTV. He had recently exposed a local contractor involved in a road scam. The incident occurred in the Bijapur district. Mukesh had been missing since January 1.
Mukesh had been investigating irregularities in a Rs 120-crore road construction project in Bastar, which led to an inquiry into the contractor’s activities. His exposé raised concerns about corruption and misuse of power within the contractor lobby in the region.
Bijapur police confirmed that his body was found in a septic tank that had recently been sealed with concrete. The body, which showed signs of multiple injuries to the head and back, was identified by his clothing. Authorities traced Mukesh’s last known mobile location to the yard of contractor Suresh Chandrakar, which led to the grim discovery.
In addition to his journalism work, Mukesh Chandrakar ran a popular YouTube channel, Bastar Junction, which had 1.59 lakh subscribers and focused on critical issues in the Bastar region.
