Posters demanding Kashmiris’ right to self-determination emerge in IIOJK
Srinagar: Posters have appeared in Srinagar and other areas of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, urging the United Nations to resolve the Kashmir dispute according to its resolution passed on 5 January 1949.
According to Kashmir Media Service, it was on January 5, 1949 when the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) passed a resolution supporting the Kashmiris’ right to decide their future by themselves through a UN-sponsored plebiscite. The day is commemorated as the Right to Self-Determination Day by the Kashmiris.
The posters, displayed by pro-freedom organizations, including the APHC, Jammu Kashmir Peoples Resistance Party, Jammu and Kashmir Political Resistance Movement, Jammu Kashmir Peoples League, Jammu Kashmir Students Youth Forum, Jammu Kashmir Democratic Movement and Jammu Kashmir Peoples Political League, call on the UN to address the violation of Kashmiris’ right to self-determination.
They emphasize that the Right to Self-Determination Day serves as a reminder to the global community of their responsibility towards the Kashmiri people.
Some posters feature Pakistan’s army chief, General Asim Munir, and express the Kashmiris’ trust in the statement on Kashmir by DG ISPR. The posters also highlight the importance of self-determination as a vital component of human dignity and freedom, as enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Human Rights covenants.
Furthermore, the posters said that the BJP-led Indian government was altering the demographic makeup of Muslim-majority occupied Jammu and Kashmir through various tactics and misleading the international community about the actual ground situation in the territory.
