Four arrested for offering Friday prayers at new mosque in Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow: Four Muslims were arrested for offering congregational Friday prayers at a newly constructed tin-shed mosque in the BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh state of India.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the incident came to light after drone footage surfaced showing the Friday prayers being held at the new mosque. The arrests were made in Jam Samant village of the Bareilly district.

Himanshu Patel, president of the Hindu Jagran Manch’s youth wing, accused the Muslims of constructing the mosque without prior permission from the district administration.

Police officials confirmed the arrests of four individuals, with three more still absconding. They also stated that orders prohibiting public gatherings were in place in Bareilly ahead of India’s Republic Day celebrations.

This incident underscores the ongoing challenges faced by Muslims in India, particularly in BJP-ruled states, where they are increasingly unable to practice their fundamental religious freedoms. Muslims, along with other religious minorities such as Dalits and Christians, have endured persistent discrimination for decades and continue to live in fear across India.
