KCCI protests exclusion from PSU boards
Srinagar: The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has expressed its strong resentment and objection over its exclusion from the recently reconstituted Boards of Directors of various public sector undertakings (PSUs).
According to Kashmir Media Service, asserting its role as a vital representation for the business community, KCCI underscored the importance of local stakeholders on decision-making boards, emphasizing the need for government consultation to craft meaningful policies.
The KCCI has historically played a pivotal role in advising and shaping policies, advocating for the interests of handicrafts and industry. The chamber recalls its past contributions, emphasizing that its absence, along with other key industrial representatives, is alarming.
Citing the valuable insights and knowledge that local stakeholders bring to decision-making processes, KCCI emphasized the importance of its inclusion on the Boards of Directors of PSUs such as SIDCO, SICOP, JKCL, JKHHC, JKIL, and KVIB.
The KCCI warned that decisions made without input from stakeholders risk being ineffective or even counterproductive, underlining the need for grassroots perspectives to ensure policies foster investment, address regional challenges, and stimulate meaningful growth.
The chamber has called for immediate restoration of its representation on the Boards of Directors of PSUs and high-level decision-making committees, highlighting the importance of collaboration, transparency, and an environment conducive to sustainable growth.
Meanwhile, the Federation of Chambers of Industries Kashmir (FCIK) has also expressed deep disappointment over the exclusion of its representatives from the boards of key industry-related public sector undertakings (PSUs).
In a statement, FCIK highlighted its disappointment given the industrial community’s expectations of the new government’s commitment to fostering growth through public-private partnerships. It emphasised that the exclusion risks creating policies disconnected from the realities faced by industries on the ground.
