Barrister Sultan urges EU to play its role in resolving Kashmir dispute

'Pays tribute to former President K.H. Khurshid'

Islamabad: The President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry, has urged the European Union to play its role in resolving the Kashmir dispute to ensure lasting peace in South Asia.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry expressed these views during a meeting with the Austrian Ambassador, Andrea Wick, at the President’s House in Kashmir House, Islamabad. He stated that both Pakistan and India are nuclear powers, and any small or large incident between them could trigger a nuclear war.

Barrister Sultan further mentioned that since August 5, 2019, there has been a rapid increase in human rights violations in occupied Kashmir. He emphasized that the international community, particularly the European Union and Austria, should intensify efforts to stop human rights abuses in IIOJK and work towards the resolution of the Kashmir issue, as Austria has a commendable track record in human rights. He also urged the European Union to appoint a special representative for Jammu and Kashmir.

Meanwhile, Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry, in a press statement, paid rich tribute to K.H. Khurshid, the former President of AJK and trusted aide of Pakistan’s founder, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, on his death anniversary. He stated that K.H. Khurshid was a selfless national leader who dedicated his entire life to the rights of the Kashmiri people.

He further added that K.H. Khurshid played a significant role in strengthening democracy in AJK. His principles, integrity, and commitment to public service will always be remembered. The President of Azad Kashmir said that K.H. Khurshid worked tirelessly to introduce the Kashmiri people to their democratic and constitutional rights. He emphasized that it is crucial to make the younger generation aware of K.H. Khurshid’s ideals and contributions so they can follow in his footsteps and work for the betterment of the Kashmiri people.
