Kashmiris gear up for peaceful protest at UN Headquarters in New York

Springfield, Virginia: Representatives of Kashmiri diaspora held a preparatory meeting in Springfield, Virginia, US, to plan a peaceful protest at the UN Headquarters in New York during the Indian delegate’s address to the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on September 28.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the protest aims to draw attention to the human rights situation in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir and the Indian government’s actions in the territory.

The meeting, arranged by the World Kashmir Awareness Forum, discussed the plan for the protest and emphasized the importance of calling out the Indian delegate for representing a country that has occupied Jammu and Kashmir for 77 years. The participants felt that the international community’s silence on the issue is encouraging India’s actions.

The meeting made decisions like encouraging each participant to bring at least 10 people to the protest, requesting imams of local mosques to make announcements about the protest, designating Sardar Shoaib Irshad as the coordinator and planning to have at least three buses leave from Washington to New York

The meeting was attended by prominent Kashmiri leaders, including Dr. Ghulam N. Mir, Dr. Ghulam Nabi Fai and Sardar Zubair Khan, among others.

The protest aims to raise awareness about the situation in Kashmir and push for a peaceful resolution to the dispute.
