Opposition walks out of Waqf Bill meeting over BJP MP’s abusive remarks

New Delhi: Opposition members of the Indian Parliament staged a walkout from the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) meeting on the Waqf Bill today, protesting derogatory remarks made by a BJP member.

According to Kashmir Media Service, tensions escalated during the meeting, chaired by BJP MP Jagadambika Pal, while the committee was hearing a presentation from the Ministry of Minority Affairs regarding the Waqf Amendment Bill. Opposition MPs raised concerns after BJP MP Nishikant Dubey made abusive comments towards TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee, prompting the protest.

Key opposition figures, including Gaurav Gogoi, A. Raja, Mohamed Abdullah, and Arvind Sawant, joined Banerjee in walking out of the meeting. This incident follows another disruption on Monday when opposition members boycotted the session over an inappropriate remark made by BJP leader Manippady concerning Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge.

Opposition members criticized the committee for failing to adhere to established rules and regulations governing the Waqf Amendment Bill, expressing broader concerns about parliamentary decorum and the treatment of opposition voices.
