Ganderbal traders shut shops in support of demands
Srinagar: Traders in Ganderbal district shut down their shops in protest against the authorities’ failure to provide basic amenities.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the shopkeepers in Tawheed Chowk market of the district expressed frustration over the lack of consistent power supply, inadequate street lighting, and a proper drainage system, which have been persistently ignored by the authorities concerned.
Arif Bashir Butt, president of the Bazar Committee Tawheed Chowk, highlighted their urgent demands for round-the-clock electricity and solutions to ongoing issues affecting traders. “One side of the market receives electricity, while the other half does not. We’re also facing drainage and street lighting problems. These issues need immediate attention,” he stated. Butt further explained that while they had raised these concerns with the authorities, the promised solutions have yet to materialize.
“We were assured that smart meters would be installed to ensure continuous supply, but despite their installation, round-the-clock electricity is still nowhere in sight,” he added. KMS-3K
