Demolition of historic Phool Shah Baba Dargah in Mumbai triggers outrage

Mumbai: The demolition of the historic Phool Shah Baba Dargah in Navi Mumbai has sparked widespread anger among Muslim community.

According to Kashmir Media Service, trustees blamed authorities for violating court orders, stating the action was linked to land interests for a resort project by the Adani Group.

The dargah, a Waqf-registered property, was demolished under heavy police presence despite ongoing tribunal proceedings. Trustee Abdul Ghafoor Qazi said, “This is a clear case of contempt of court,” asserting that all legal documents were in order.

The alleged link to Adani’s proposed resort project has further fueled suspicions of vested interests.

Muslim residents and community leaders have condemned the act as an attack on religious and cultural heritage. Protests have erupted across Navi Mumbai, with calls for legal action and the shrine’s restoration.

A tribunal hearing is scheduled for Monday, with the trustees vowing to pursue justice. The demolition has drawn attention to potential misuse of authority and escalated tensions over land use and religious rights.
