India using violence against women in IIOJK as weapon of war: APHC-AJK

Islamabad: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir chapter has said that India is using violence against women in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir as a weapon of war and the international community should take notice of Indian state terrorism.

According to Kashmir Media Service, on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, today, the APHC-AJK Convener Ghulam Muhammad Safi, Mehmood Ahmad Saghar, Muhammad Farooq Rehmani, Advocate Pervez Ahmed, Shamim Shawl, Mushtaq Ahmed Butt, Qazi Imran, Khalid Shabbir, Imtiaz Butt and Abdul Rashid Butt in their statements in Islamabad said women in occupied Jammu and Kashmir are constantly suffering from Indian state terrorism.

They lamented that India had given its soldiers a free hand under black laws to violate the sanctity and chastity of Kashmiri women. Especially since August 5, 2019, the Modi government, Indian army, paramilitary and police personnel and intelligence agencies have the so-called legal protection to target, detain and further their nefarious agenda in the occupied territory by making derogatory remarks and comments about Kashmiri women, ignoring their social, human and other rights, they added.

The APHC-AJK leaders said since 1989, more than 2500 women have been martyred and over 11,000 chaste women have been subjected to desecration, more than 23,000 Kashmiri women have become widows in the last 35 years due to Indian state terrorism.

The Hurriyat leaders further said over two dozen women, including Aasiya Andrabi, Naheeda Nasreen and Fehmeeda Sufi have been facing illegal detention in the infamous New Delhi’s Tihar Jail and other Indian jails for the last five years.

They said due to Indian state terrorism, Kashmiri women are subjected to mental torture through the killing of their loved ones, arrests and enforced disappearances in custody. Indian soldiers are sexually harassing women on a daily basis to humiliate Kashmiris.

They said international human rights organizations should increase pressure on India to stop serious violations of human rights of Kashmiri women and heinous crimes against them.

On the occasion of this day, Hurriyat leaders have appealed to the international community to use its influence to stop the ongoing Indian atrocities on women, ongoing massacres, Indian state terrorism and injustice in occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

Meanwhile, Pasban-e-Hurriyat Women’s head Mehnaz Qureshi in a statement in Muzaffarabad said Indian government in Occupied Kashmir is using torture and arrests on Kashmiri women as a weapon of war. She said millions of Kashmiri women in the occupied territory are suffering from the fear of Indian soldiers, where they are being harassed every day.

She said that every city, town, village and every street and corner of Kashmir is a symbol of the worst fear for Kashmiri women, adding that Kashmiri women continue to suffer state terrorism, injustice, oppression and violence.
