After Ajmer Sharif, Hindu extremists demand survey of another historic mosque

New Delhi: After demanding a survey of the famous Ajmer Sharif Dargah, Hindu extremists have now called for a survey of the ‘Dhai Din Ka Jhonpra Mosque,’ located near the shrine.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the mosque, one of the oldest in India, is located just five minutes away from Ajmer Sharif. It is a protected historical site under the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).

Indian media reported that Deputy Mayor of Ajmer, Neeraj Jain, has issued a statement regarding the ‘Dhai Din Ka Jhonpra Mosque,’ claiming that evidence of a Sanskrit college and a temple has been found there. He also claimed that the ASI possesses over 250 idols found from the site. He added that the mosque is over a thousand years old and is mentioned in historical books. Jain has previously called for a halt to religious activities at the mosque.

Vishnu Gupta, the president of Hindu Sena, had filed a petition in the local court demanding a survey of the Dargah, claiming that there was a Shiva temple beneath it. Following this, the court issued notices to the Ministry of Minority Affairs, ASI, and the Ajmer Dargah Committee on November 27.

It is worth noting that a similar claim had recently been made regarding the Mughal-era Jama Masjid in the Sambhal region of Uttar Pradesh, which led to protests against a controversial survey. During these protests, police opened fire, killing four Muslims.
